Update 02/15/2021 Now I can confirm that immediately after replacing this filter with the original Winix - the chemical smell went IMMEDIATELY! 100% it was this filter that caused the smell. I have been using this filter for 2 months and I can tell you that I have never felt comfortable using it even for a day. The smell never went away because this is the product they have to use in manufacturing. For an extra $20 or maybe pennies a day, I will never use a discounted replacement filter. It's not worth it. These filters give off a weird chemical smell, which has never happened when I've used the Winix OEM filters. I've had the same Winix device for 3 years - actually 2 of the same model - and never noticed that weird smell before trying these cheaper replacement parts. They are safe to use but the smell won't go away so I'm going back to the original expensive ones just to feel safe.
