Since our house has an unconventional roofline/gutter, I decided to hang it from a large tree in front of the house. The plastic gutter hook seemed flimsy to me, but since I tied the top of the net to the tree with paracord, I was able to easily pull it up and stretch it the way I wanted. It came with simple instructions on how to unravel it, which got the kids in the neighborhood really excited when it was hung up. I'd keep the plastic hook, and the pins aren't great, but that's an easily circumvented problem. Update: I dropped the star because it keeps breaking. Strings break again and again and the whole net sags. I've tried tying the two frayed ends together with another rope but it looks awkward and uneasy. I've covered it with sheer cotton to camouflage it, but I'm sure it won't last until next season.
