Overall a great monitor

This monitor replaced Acer's 24-inch 1080p 60Hz IPS panel. Color reproduction is almost there but not quite what to expect as IPS panels are known to have better color reproduction. The larger screen and much higher refresh rate were advantages for me. This monitor excelled in every picture quality test I ran. The only major downside, although by no means a significant one, is that the monitor is advertised as having a 1ms response time when using Overdrive. While technically correct, using the Boost setting in Overdrive causes the monitor's brightness to drop to around 70 nits. WAY too dark to be usable. That's a disappointment, because the 1ms response time compared to the usual 4ms response time without Overdrive Boost is quite noticeable to the trained eye. Like I said, this isn't a deal breaker, but I'm wondering who at AOC decided it was a good idea to implement on this monitor. Not noticeable at all unless the screen is completely black and you're looking directly at it from a few inches away. In normal use, this is not noticeable at all. If I understand AOC's dead pixel policy correctly, a single dead/stuck pixel is RMA compliant, but since it's invisible 99% of the time, I've chosen not to apply it. AOC also offers a 3-year limited warranty that matches the best monitor warranties available. Revain also offers a full 3 and 4 year warranty through Square Trade for just a few dollars (I think I paid around $4.58 for it). So if the monitor still breaks, other than the user intentionally abusing the monitor, everything is equally covered. All in all, this monitor was worth the $260 I paid. A similar monitor from ASUS or Acer costs $80-120 more. The price difference between 24 and 27 inches from major manufacturers like ASUS and Acer is ridiculous.

Pros
  • Damn good 27" monitor was at a good price, delivered on time and I will be buying 1-2 more!
Cons
  • Poor contrast: If the black and white levels aren't set correctly, the image on the screen can look washed out or too dark.
