Okay, this thing was an emotional roller coaster for me. I started with the TCP module. It's VERY easy to set up, set an IP and all, but not for those who don't mess around with networks or computers much. I bought 2 for 2 separate uses. I have a bar and a bowling partner. One to control all the lights in the bowling alley, the other to control the bar. Most of you who have played bowling are probably familiar with space bowling. We work where the lights don't come on in time, and my staff don't suddenly do it either. Because if you switch to black light and turn off all white light at the same time, people will cheer with joy. Not to mention the timing and consistency is tremendous. Same goes for my bar, they keep daylight running until 9pm which adds up to my electric bill. So once plugged in, the web controller (via your web browser) actually sucks. It's too easy, so easy you can't rename the relay. I took a closer look and found that as soon as a website loads, it triggers a relay, so I created a bunch of .url files (link in web browser). I ran them in a batch script (pretty easy). It only worked half the time, the web utility stopped working and I had to turn it off and on again to get it working again. So. I asked a question here and got an answer from the person who wrote the PHP script, so my server is already a PHP server, he sent me his files and they didn't work. Oddly enough I never knew this but the code for his HTML document was in Spanish ok so n/m I don't know enough to try. So I bought a USB module. It's very simple, plug it in and use the utility that comes with bingo. So the included Windows utility only shows the number 1-16 ON/OFF. Not what I need to automate my lights, back then it came with a DOS command program, my ally. Wrote a simple script to turn the relay on and off. But for some reason I turn on one relay and then another relay before it immediately turns off. I have a script with 10 relays, all I'm doing here is click click click click. So it won't work at all, I wanted to learn Arduino, it's not too expensive and will do the job, or just buy a PLC and use it, but it's expensive and I need to learn a programming language. Eventually I discovered a utility called cURL. It's a DOS-based utility that basically gets a website and displays it in both text form and content. At the moment I've tried everything, so to hell with everything. both platforms. Basically writing a screenplay. /30000/05Perfect. Light change in no time! Also, it doesn't seem to be crashing at the moment, it's day two and it hasn't messed me up yet. So now you come in, we have half the lights off, at 5pm we have all the lights, at 9:50pm the lights go into this space mode, at 1:15am it then goes back to day mode at 1 :31 it turns off the lights in the bowling alleys and the seating areas let people know we're closed. Same for the bar, at 7pm the lights go to night mode, the lights go back to day mode at 1:15am. The best part is that they turn on and off in a snap. The main reason for doing this is to make the facility more eco-friendly, sustainable and to ensure we can get people out at the expected time. When they lock the building, I wrote another script that automatically turns off the lights in the bar and turns off the lights for the bowling alley with a 15 second delay. A delay is provided to allow them to safely proceed to the front door. These batch scripts are simply run on the computer using the Windows Task Scheduler. That's all. The computer in question is also a cash register and doesn't display anything that would prevent it from working. For safety reasons both relay boards are in digital connection mode which turns off at 2:30am to allow for a daily reset and ensure no lights are left on if the script fails overnight.
