Right out of the box I ran the necessary updates, which took a few minutes and I was good to go. I got this tool because I pulled into the local lot after the check engine light came on. Although I found and fixed the problem on the spot (misfire coil) I was told that they could not reset the DTC to turn off the check engine light. Perhaps they are not allowed to turn off the check engine light because that could be a liability issue. I called everyone and some stores wanted to charge me over $20 just to clear the code. Luckily I had a friend who introduced me to this great tool and allowed me to reset the DTC. At first I was trying to rationalize the purchase of this item because I'm not really a gear specialist so I figured its use would be wasted on me because I would most likely use it from time to time. But then I found out that it can work on multiple vehicles and will most likely be one of the tools I would have at my disposal in an emergency. For just over $30, this is a must-have tool. It's lightweight and portable and shouldn't take up too much space. After updating it, I started using it. The build seems cheap so I don't think it will last very long if you don't take care of your stuff; I say this for the dirty guys who just toss tools in a random box. The buttons are pretty simple and you can run tests inside the scanner to verify the buttons and LEDs are working. At first glance I thought my scanner was broken because some of the pins on the data link connector were missing. After trying it I realized that the manufacturer probably left these pins blank on purpose to save money and keep costs down since you can keep the same operation without them. All in all a great tool. A tool capable at this price point is a steal. This scanner will appeal to beginners and mechanics alike and is a must have for any auto repair.
