Sounds better than Bose home theater speakers (obvious difference)

Sounds better than Bose home theater speakers. My Kenwood Excelon x497 drives these speakers to their maximum excursion limit so you don't need an amplifier. I wish I could get all the 6x9s, but I had to put 6.5s in the front doors to fit. The Kicker ds 6x9 is a bit more expensive than the ds 6.5, but the 6x9 sounds better through softer highs, so harsh highs don't cause tinnitus and has deeper bass that can also get louder. You don't get good bass from door speakers. The Kicker DS 6.5 on my front door has muddy bass and just isn't loud. I put DS 6x9s behind the back seat and the bass sounds deep, clear and loud when you turn it on, but nothing brakes loudly. I didn't expect these speakers to drop down to 30 Hz, but after amplifying them on the radio, it sounded like I had a subwoofer: license plate rattled, you can see the carpet vibrating behind the back seat, reflection, the rearview mirror vibrates and the side mirrors vibrate slightly in response to the bump notes (but that might be because the door-mounted 6.5s have more bump than the 6x9s). But that might just be down to the way this car was built, as I've noticed it makes a low-pitched rumble that's pretty loud when you hit the rear seat headrest. The tweeter doesn't sound as good as the ds 6.5, but you probably won't notice it if there's a lot of noise around you. High frequencies (e.g. 10,000 Hz and more) sound about 2 to 3 decibels higher with the ds 6.5 than with the ds 6x9. The DS 6.5 definitely has more upper mids (2000Hz to 3000Hz) which I would get around 3-5 decibels louder than the 6x9. I don't like the upper-mid range from 2000Hz to 3000Hz because many tones in that range are boosted to sound louder. I think you can stick a quarter scotch to 6.5 inches if you want to reduce that upper middle area. I wouldn't glue on more than 4 quarters. But you have to make sure you glue it securely or you will hear the rattle. I've used this trick on woofers to reduce their frequency response to make them sound like subwoofers and I don't like that the upper bass is louder than the lower one. The bass should sound equally loud at all frequencies; 30Hz should sound as loud as 40Hz, 60Hz, etc. Anything below 30Hz doesn't matter. The bass above 60Hz should start to fade away a bit as it gets higher. These Kicker DS 6x9s sound almost proportionally loud, like bass notes, sitting in the back seat. I'm not sure how the ds 6.5s' sound connects behind the back seats, but I'm sure it won't have the same bass as the ds 6x9. You still need a subwoofer if you put them in the doors, but if you put 6.5in or 6x9s behind the back seats you'll almost sound like you have a subwoofer if you've got a radio capable of enough power and to have bass boost, e.g. Kenwood Excelon x497 So don't expect good bass from them when you install them in the door. Installing behind the back seat is a different story as I mentioned. The bass will sound louder as you experiment with your windows; I have found that both front windows are fully open and the rear windows are fully open to increase the bass. However, this may vary depending on the vehicle. And you shouldn't experiment with a window if the speakers are on the door, as lower windows will reduce bass as the window restricts airflow in the door.
