I mounted my son on a large chest so the lid doesn't flap with his fingers. The instructions and installation dimensions weren't the easiest, but the hinges are solid and work great. Sizes are given in tenths of an inch, not fractions. So if you don't have a scale, you'll need to approximate the measurements on a tape measure. After finding the right positioning, installation is pretty easy. Now the chances of the lid slamming shut are zero. These hinges took my Hope chest panel/pad project to the next level and also made it safe for my son. It would be five stars if the installation instructions were simpler and clearer. Tips for faster installation: First install the bottom bracket using the two measurements given between the center of the bracket measured from the back and the top of the box. Then install the fully extended hinge to the bottom bracket using the screw provided. Then hold the lid open at a 75 degree angle and mark the position of the top bracket's top hole on the inside of the lid. I used a digital protractor to ensure the correct angle. You will need to remove the tab from the bottom bracket to mark the location of the top bracket's bottom hole. Drill marked holes and mount hinges in all locations. Finished! Drilling Tip: Wrap a piece of tape around the drill bit 1/2 inch from the tip. This will give you a depth mark to prevent drilling into the sides/top of the box.
