One of the best deals, glad I bought this.
If you're interested in 4K, it's best to wait for the next generation or construct a PC for this, which will be very expensive and unlikely to be worth it. I got it primarily not for 4K, but as a reserve for the future and virtual reality. The evolution of 4K gaming has been slow thus far. It will be more of a bonus here than anything else. However, if you own a 4K/HDR TV and/or PS VR, this system is an absolute must-have. Even with a 1080p display, improved frame rates and visual quality are on the horizon.
Pros
- For $24,000 (at the time of purchase, sans inflation), you get some really potent hardware. Not native 4K, but chess rendering (not even once upscaled - works differently) that looks just as excellent. Games look fantastic on a high-quality 4K + HDR television because of the way HDR enhances the picture. Fixes for video games that enhance the visuals. It is possible to increase the frame rate even in unpatched games; for instance, in Killzone: Shadow Fall, we consistently achieve 60 frames per second. The future holds greater framerates, richer graphics, and a more immersive virtual reality experience thanks to more powerful hardware. For good reason, a 500GB hard disk is immediately upgraded to a 1TB one. Except for the Xbox Elite, I think this is the greatest gamepad available right now. The PS4 Pro/Slim's controller looks slightly different from the standard PS4 controller. The lighting from the panel extends to the touchpad, the color scheme is different, the ons are tighter, and the whole thing is matte. In addition, it may function solely over USB, which might help reduce latency in crucial games. The ons are now a physical button and a USB port has been added to the device's back. All the regular PS4 benefits, I guess.
Cons
- The same one-ear headset that is painful to wear is supplied. However, with consistent charging, this is not an issue; you never feel like you haven't played enough, but the gamepad is already dead. This is in stark contrast to the PS3's original gamepad. Although the system is quiet overall, the fan can be heard at high speeds in games that have been patched. Resetting the speed is quick and not especially important. While developers have shown little interest in creating games on the Pro, the release of the Xbox One X is expected to change this. In 2022, consoles cost a lot more than they did in 2012. It's simpler in other countries, where AAA games cost the same $/€60 on PC and consoles as here in the United States. However, services that rent out games and sell used disks will save the day.
