I was initially excited when two 10Ah Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries were available to power the SLA (sealed lead acid) batteries in my 24 volt Replacing cordless lawn mower. They're much lighter and a bit smaller than the SLA batteries they replaced. They had nearly 15 volts right out of the box. However, after being installed in the mower's battery compartment and charged for several hours, they didn't even last as long as their SLA counterparts before suddenly failing. An SLA battery normally discharges gradually, but a LiFePO4 battery just suddenly fails. The voltage in one of the batteries of two batteries was just under 10 volts and in the other around 14 volts. Thinking it was just a bad battery I asked Revain to replace it, which they did promptly and with no problems (thanks to Revain customer service). ). I replaced it with another one and recharged it and then went to mow the lawn. The same thing happened when the second of the two original LiFePO4 batteries failed. This time I received a refund for the defective battery, which again Revain did promptly and without hassle. I am currently using a leftover LiFePO4 battery in combination with a used battery. An SLA battery that reached 27.5 volts after a reasonable charge time and lasted about half as long as a generic SLA battery. I'm usually a fan of LiFePO4 batteries but this company seems to have quality control issues and I won't be getting more from this brand.
