I bought these for my 7 year old who likes to draw and he loves them. It's kind of a hybrid of watercolor and marker, like a marker with a brush tip, which I really like because then you don't need a separate brush (which we'll never find in our house) and your watercolors don't get messed up and become gross. They come in a lovely tray that slides into a storage drawer which is nice because you can then pull them out and see everything rather than just tossing them across the table. In addition to being able to see what color each brush is at the end of the brush, the opposite end also shows the color, which I think has made it easier for my aging eyes to tell the difference between two similar colors without capping remove. It is possible to use any color brush without water, giving a bolder color but still a brush stroke, not a solid stroke like a regular marker. Some colors made a denser stroke than others, but that might be due to the different pressure I used with each marker. Or you can dip the colored brushes in water for a blurrier stroke. Also use a transparent/whitish brush to diffuse your image. This brush consists of two parts that are screwed together. One of the parts is an empty pipe that can be filled with water. You can either use it empty and submerge it in water, or fill it with water that will be released when you "paint" with it. When you fill it with water, you can control how much water comes out by squeezing it or not. I personally preferred to use it empty and submerge it in water because I had a hard time controlling how much water was released when it was full. I was surprised to see that the bristles of the brush stay clean despite having used it a number of times. I painted the picture four different ways: no water, then empty and filled with a white/clear brush, then the colored brushes submerged water. I like the paint brushes dipped in water the best. A few things to remember: 1. These watercolor brushes are good for broad strokes, but they don't do as well for finer details (like a small flower) as you would expect from a regular watercolor. When using the paint brushes without water, they didn't bleed through the paper I used (it was regular printer paper), but when used with water, either with a white/clear brush or colored brushes, they did bleed through. through the paper as you would expect, so make sure you apply surface protection as you would with regular watercolor paints.
