I used to use wood oil, but I was interested in something else, less "superficially". I'm refinishing 3 cutting boards and about a dozen wooden utensils, all of which have had some type of coating in the past: tung oil, vegetable oil, or partially cooking oils. But they were beginning to show signs of needing a revitalization. Here's what I like: a) You can oil it up, wipe off the excess (if you don't have time to leave it on longer) and use it right away. If something needs touching up, I don't have to wait like 24 hours to use it like I do with tung oil. b) no nut allergy c) helps a little. I covered all the boards, front and back, at least 4 times and dishes 2 times. I used about 1/4 of the bottle. Now there is very little. d) The wood seems to absorb the substance. I oil it. I see "wet surface". I'll be back in a few hours. The surface no longer looks wet (but also not dry - in between maybe like "wet", just oil, no water. e) no unpleasant odors. f) easy to clean by hand; just like vegetable oil. The only thing that differs slightly from my other experiences (other than using vegetable oil on one of the boards before) is that the surface of the board retains a very slight oily feel. Maybe like a piece of pecan or walnut. Not bad at all, just a little different. It feels like the wood has absorbed the oil and it protects it both above and below the surface. It feels like it will hold up, but when the outer layer dries (due to repeated washing) it has some headroom underneath the layer to slightly cover it inside out! They collect drops of water. I do NOT wash wood in the dishwasher. Washing hands is easy, but unlike tung oil, it feels like a small amount of oil is being washed away each time. But either not much, or filled up from inside the tree. Definitely doesn't dry out automatically, but I see the need for occasional dressings. Again not bad. Tung oil does not wash off, it "cuts offβ. Cutting through the tung oil finish reveals wood that has not been oiled. That being said, instead of taking it to the garage, sanding it down, applying tung oil and waiting 24 to 48 hours (or more) for it to dry before using it, you can just wipe it down. You can optimize very easily. I have not used it with any type of wax. only oil It's a slightly different approach than what I've done in the past, but I like what I've seen so far. It's only been 2 weeks since the show started but with the heavy usage they've had in that time I don't expect things to change much. I think as time goes by the boards and tools just get more intense and better. ===== 10 month update ==== February 16, 2019; I bought it in April 2018. Yes! I'm pretty conservative about compliments and praise unless something really deserves it. This is one of those products that really does what it says on the tin and does it well. This is DEFINITELY the BEST MATERIAL I have ever used for WOOD kitchenware. I followed the instructions: I oiled them every day for a week; then 1 time / week for a month; and now (about) once a month; or more specifically when they look a little dry or the water stops shining, which happens about once a month, but some items get used more and washed more often than others. All cutting boards and wooden utensils look and function as good as they have. This is undoubtedly what I will be refilling (I'm still on my 1st bottle! Looks like it will last me 18 months or 2 years) WILL BE STANDARD FOR MY WOOD COOKWARE.
