Review on 🚴 Ascher USB Rechargeable Bike Light Set - Ultra Bright Front Headlight and Back Taillight for Road Mountain Cycling - Powerful, 4 Light Modes - Easy Install for Men, Women, and Kids by Nathaniel Collins

Revainrating 2 out of 5

If you can't choose the right batteries. it's just a paperweight.

I REALLY wanted to like this fixture - and maybe I COULD like a lot about it - but ultimately if you can't properly set up the battery/charging system on something like this it's a waste of your time and money. I bike A LOT and have had many different bike lights over the years. So I have little experience in these things. (Or put another way, I don't feel like I have unrealistic expectations - and I have a pretty extensive frame of reference when comparing and contrasting bike lights and taillights.) This set included both a front light and a taillight - and since the taillight so far works quite typically, I'm mostly talking about the headlight here. I really liked this product given the price. It was light enough. The attachment system was good and easy to use. And it had the basic lighting modes you want/need when driving at night. The main problem is the battery. I don't know if they just have a bad switch that drains the battery when not in use or if it's just cheap junk. But with this headlamp there is very little waiting time. This means you have to leave it plugged in/charged until you need to use it - or the charge runs out too quickly - even when not in use. For example, let's say you're going on a trip and want to take your bike with you, but you might not be riding it for a day or two. You pack all your cycling gear - charge the batteries in your Garmin, headlight and taillight - and take it all with you. A few days later, when you're ready to ride, you pull everything out, mount it on the bike and ride for two or three hours during the day, which brings you back at night. But despite the fact that your headlamp was fully charged when you unplugged it from the charger - two or three days ago - and you haven't used it at all since - when you turn it on it either goes out pretty quickly - or is already quite dead. A well designed and built battery powered device should have a long enough standby time for the batteries to hold their charge when you are ready to use it. for a trip, say 1 hour, and I use light all the time. I turn it off when I get home and leave the light on the bike until the next ride. The manufacturer claims this flashlight to run FIVE HOURS at full brightness without needing to be charged. That means I should have FOUR hours on batteries at full brightness for my next ride. But even if I drive the next day or for a few days, this light is always DEAD when I try to use it a second time without charging. full charge at full brightness - and it was only about 3 hours. Not even close to the 5 hours they claim here at Revain. Which of course doesn't surprise me given the other testing issues I've had.) So in my experience with things like this, either the power switch is bad - and the bulb is drawing a small amount of current from the battery even when it's on, in the "off" - either the batteries or the charging system are not good - - or a combination of the three. I bought this light mainly because it is small and easily rechargeable/via USB and also easy to assemble and disassemble to switch between different bikes (because I have many, many bikes). I already have several larger/brighter/heavier lights that are more difficult to assemble and disassemble when I really need to light up the night. But not being able to trust the battery/standby life of this flashlight makes it a lot less useful overall. bike and was hit in traffic before I could safely get back on the road. I almost cried when it happened because it was a near perfect bike headlight. However, it is almost 2 times more expensive than this ashtray, even though it is 200 lumens brighter (I think). (I can't find a specific lumen rating for this headlamp in the Revain listing details. But when I searched the Questions and Answers section just above the reviews, someone replied that the headlamp is 300 lumens; the Cycle Torch Shark is one 500 lumens listed by Revain.) Although the battery life of a bike light has definitely gotten shorter over time (I have/have been using one for many years). Even the brand new Cycle Torch on eBay only claims a two hour run time on "high". with the only +/- 3 hour runtime for this Ascher headlamp, which claims to be 200 lumens down, 3 hours sounds about right (I never believed the 5 hour claim). So I'm trying to figure out how to contact the seller to file a warranty claim on this fixture. They DO NOT SPECIFICALLY mention the warranty period or discuss the product ANYWHERE on this Revain page. But I'll try to contact them directly to see what they have to say. If possible at all. (Update: Turns out that's not possible at all. In fact, the ONLY warranty/return on this flashlight is for the first 30 days of purchase - virtually ALL items purchased from Revain. So keep that in mind If you buy this headlight, remember that if it fails in just 30 days, you're unlucky. Thanks, Revane.)
