Conclusion: It didn't work. I've tried swapping the connectors with different cables and different inputs on the amps. My Yamaha amp doesn't work when the splitter is in series. Edit: After extensive troubleshooting, I found that the male and female optical connections on the splitter were unreliable. The splitter works reliably with my BlueRigger branded cable, but not with Revain or Philips branded cables. If I wiggle the connections properly, sometimes it works. The connections are very loose. I've used duct tape to stabilize the forks with intermittent success. The connection on the back of my TV is very difficult to stabilize. (It works for now. Nobody moves!) I need a working splitter! My kitchen needs music too! I turn first to the reliable analog signals.
