Worked great for "fall protection "

After much research I used this to cover some roofs as backup fall (slip) protection on metal roofs with a 6:12 pitch in sporadic rain testing. (I'm a civil engineer.) I wouldn't necessarily use it for a vertical fall with significant impact, but more for use where there might be relatively little impact if I slip, fall, and start sliding down the roof. Great device in such a small package. (And I didn't even use it for some of the other features it has.) A photo shows where I cut out to freely move along the ridge line. Of course, to go up/down from the opposite side of the roof, I had to detach the device and rotate it 180 degrees. But it can be removed very quickly and attached again to a medium-length rope. During the ascent, it simply follows you without having to pull it by hand or pull the rope. For example, when using a belay device, you must pull the rope. To descend you have to hold it with your hand to turn the clamp (cam) but when you let go it springs back and locks into place. (Note: I know the Quickdraw carabiner in the photo isn't a perfect mount, but it was the best I had at the time.)

Pros
  • Tools and gear
Cons
  • Not bad
