I bought this fuel pump for my zero turn lawnmower. I had this problem when the gas tank was about 3 gallons and gravity fed. However, the height of the carburetor on the engine is about 2/3 from the bottom of the tank. So you would be using 1/2 to 1 gallon of gas (mowing about 45 minutes) and the mower would spit and spatter and die like it ran out of gas. Technically it was because the fuel level did not exceed the level of the carburetor. So I bought this fuel pump to solve this problem and to be able to use more fuel in the tank. It was easy to connect. I cut off the plug and connect the pump to the toggle switch. I tried using the fuel filter that came with the pump but it didn't seem to fill all the way. So I reinstalled the old fuel filter which was about 1/2 the size of the new one. I had problems with the mower that kept running and I figured the size of the fuel filter was my problem, but after I put the old one back I thought about not prepping the line first. So I disconnected the fuel line from the carburetor, made a pan, turned on the pump and ran some fuel. I turn them off, lift the fuel line up, hold it, turn the pump back on for a second, then turn it off again. Hence the fuel was to the end of the hose when I reconnected it to the carburetor. Since then I have had no more problems with the operation of the lawn mower. My only suggestion if someone is going to do what I did is that after setting this setting (if using a toggle switch) you first start the mower and then turn on the pump. When finished, turn off the pump and then the mower. This way you won't be consuming carbs, and once you get used to it, you'll never forget to turn off your pump. I used a toggle switch because it was easier than figuring out which of the five wires was the included ignition part, and I don't like messing with the factory wiring and potentially causing other problems. I hope this helps someone or gives someone an idea if they had the same problem with a huge gas tank on a mower but couldn't use 2/3 of it and can't figure out why. This is most likely gravity feed and the carburetor is not at or below the bottom of the tank. Example: Look at where the carburetor inlet of a standard lawnmower and the gas tank outlet are located.
