The minimum size is closer to 8' than it is to 6'. I have a 6' wide window and had to leave one of the three bars off, which also means the decorative ball at the end doesn't go on. There are two larger bars, each with a spot to screw the decorative end piece into and then a smaller bar that you are to put inside the two larger bars and make adjustments by sliding more or less of the smaller bar out or in. The two larger bars do not connect to one another without the smaller one inside them both. Each of the larger bars are 49.5" long. That's a minimum size of 99" or 8'3".The threads are painted so they don't move so easy. The paint scratches off super easy. The screw heads are shallow so it's not easy to work with.
