The most advanced display ever.

I've been using this display for a little over a month. I researched dozens of monitors before making my purchase before finally giving this guy any money. It had to meet several requirements: 1080p resolution or higher, VESA mount, IPS display. Do you know how hard it is to find her? Seems like IPS displays don't have a VESA mount. I have no idea why. I'd settle for the 24-inch version of this monitor, but again it lacks a VESA mount (which is odd). My next plan was to order a Korean 2560 x 1440 IPS monitor from Ebay (like Catleap), but after much deliberation I decided I didn't want to play Russian roulette and risk a bad no-warranty display or dead pixels, but then you have to spend more money to send it back, or worse, no warranty (which is not uncommon for these displays). After comparing many other displays, I settled on this one as it was the only one. which meets all my requirements. The only reason I hesitated to order it was the reflective screen (more on that in a moment). And I'm glad I did. Colors are perfect after loading the monitor's ICC profile (which was calibrated with Spyder Pro). Negroes are really black. Almost like staring into the abyss. Whites are whites. My screen has a warmer tone (yellow) but you can change the settings to change this, but the white tones are still very accurate. The display design is solid. The weight is evenly distributed across the panel and feels sturdy. The best way I can describe it is like holding an iPad. It feels like a solid object, not a cheap plastic case that houses the components (like other monitors I've used). I love glass from edge to edge and this piece looks really classy and eye catching as I've noticed from friends who have asked for it. It has an active USB 2.0 hub which I use. Mainly for charging my iPhone 5/iPad mini. Works perfectly. And it will still transfer/sync footage. The HDMI port USES HDCP (I have confirmed this via the NVIDIA/HDCP control panel) which means you can watch Blu-ray movies either from your Blu-ray player on your PC or if you have a monitor connected via HDMI connect to the Blu-ray player or PS3. Again, colors, brightness and contrast are amazing. This was a huge upgrade as I was using a 26 inch Vizio TV which of course doesn't have a high quality panel. Now for the cons: Reflectivity. I am not joking. This thing is like a mirror when it's not on. If you're in a darker room, or if she's in a corner or with her back to a window, you won't have a problem. When I ordered it, I knew I would be a worst-case user. My office has 6 large windows. Two of them are right behind my computer chair. Nothing outside blocks the view of the sky and the sun. I have orange curtains. serving a decorative purpose rather than a function. So they didn't offer much protection from the sun. That being said - if the monitor is on and you're doing something, you probably won't notice any reflections unless you stop searching OR the content you're looking for is very dim. For example, I tried to watch the "Blackwater Bay" episode of Game of Thrones. A dark yes rk episode as most of it takes place at night. The glare of the reflections was annoying (this was the brightest part of the day and again a huge window directly behind me). However, when I hung the bright documentary Jiro's Dreams of Sushi, I didn't notice or was distracted by the bright light. Since then, I've remodeled my office so the sunlight doesn't come from behind. I repeated the same view of Blackwater Bay and there was a noticeable reduction in reflection and it looked great even on the brightest day. So the bottom line is that placement and content are important factors for highlights. If you are in a bright spot, but watch light content, there is practically no glare, but a bright spot, dark content - noticeable, but not terrible glare. Advertisement. To explain this, imagine you are looking at an icon on your desktop. If you look at the monitor at an angle and then drive on, you will eventually notice that the icon is reflected in the glass. The best way to describe what it looks like would be if there was a dimmer colored icon shadow behind it. Duplicate. Almost 3D holographic. Personally, I don't think this is a problem, since looking at the monitor normally (straight ahead) or even at a normal angle (like swiveling in a computer chair or tilting your head) doesn't produce this hologram. But if you think about the movement at an angle and look for it, you will see it. It's more of a matter of personal preference, but once I set it up next to two other monitors it messed up the rest for me. I spent more time setting up the other two monitors (cheap $150 Acer monitors) to match my Dell than I did setting up the Dell. The difference in quality between them and this one is noticeable and annoying. And finally, just to be safe, I am ordering one of these Dell monitors today to replace the other two. I'm so excited! All in all, if you are still reading this then you are really trying to find the best bang for your buck. The Dells2740L is a serious contender and one you should seriously consider. Update February 27, 2014 Almost a year later. I will let you all know that I have fulfilled my promise to buy a second one. One screen in portrait and one horizontal. After a small optimization, both displays have the same lighting and color rendering. The newer shade seems warmer than my original (right out of the box) but as determined by changing the settings and applying the ICC profile I'd say the colors are very similar (however one is still slightly warmer than the previous one ). . other Only noticeable when viewing two identical websites with white background, e.g. e.g. Google). I also wanted to update this review with another important aspect that I missed. I play a lot of games. IPS panels are known for ghosting. There are different types of panels for IPS displays (H-IPS, S-IPS, etc.). Others are recommended to others based on latency, viewing angles, colors. From my experience I can say that there is no noticeable ghosting on this panel, making it excellent for gaming. I still recommend this display to those who value color accuracy, contrast and good black levels.
