Review on πŸ”Œ DTECH RS232 to RS485 Serial Converter Adapter: Industrial Long Haul Communication Data Solution with 4 Position Terminal Block & 600W Anti-Surge Support by Jeremy Gums

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works GREAT, bus powered, automatic RS-485 transfer, low latency

I couldn't help but than asking for more, this thing works great! I had to send a few commands to the RS-485 peripheral to get it ready and it worked great. It is fully bus powered (but offers an external 7-9 VDC power supply on the RS-485 side). The most important thing when using half-duplex RS-485 is fast control of the DE (Driver Enable) line. This thing handles it automatically and perfectly. Can send RS-485 commands through the terminal, and when not sending it quickly releases the transmit line to switch back to receive (<1ms). TTL together to handle DE line switching, but for the price I couldn't justify the build time even with the components being free and on the shelf. A good RS232-485 converter is a handy item in your debug toolbox when working with RS-485 devices, and this one is well built and very easy to use (it even comes with a phoenix-style screw terminal block, lol)

Pros
  • Mini RS-232-485 serial adapter allows multiple bus nodes and 32 devices to be networked on an RS-485 network
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
