Excellent microscope for beginners. The adjustment knob on the first one we received was broken, but Amazon was quick to replace it. Easy to use for our 6 year old. There is an option for top or rear lighting, which is convenient. We had a lot of fun looking at the crystals and making our own plant slides. The only thing that confuses me is that while the Artemia experiment is fun, it's hard to explain to a kid that the shrimp are about to die. Also part of the shrimp experiment is you put toxins in their water to see what happens and I'm not a PETA fanatic or anything but that's not a lesson I want to teach my kid. Be careful if you also argue about how your child treats other living beings.
