At first I was very happy with this rack as it seems very strong, holds the bikes very well and was exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately I had problems the first time I used the rack. I mounted it on the back of our trailer and took two mountain bikes with me. The trailer mount is specially designed for these carriers and is very well attached to the trailer frame. On the 375-mile trip from Colorado to Utah, I noticed that the bikes bounced significantly when we hit bumps at highway speeds. (I have a camera on the back of my trailer so I can watch the bikes from my truck while we drive). I checked them once or twice during the stops to make sure they are still safe and seem fine. When we got to our destination, I took the bikes out of the rack and found the foam padding on one of the "hooks" that holds the bikes fully worn down to the pint where the metal made direct contact with my bike's top tube . This resulted in a two inch patch of paint peeling off the bike (see image). This could have been avoided if either the post wasn't springing as much while riding, or if the hook had been held onto the bike's top tube. The bike was more like a top tube. If your bike has a more traditional 1-1.5" round tube, this might work well. Or if the protective foam material were denser or more resistant to vibration and friction. Adding some extra protection where that arm goes through the pipe might solve the problem. Needless to say, I am very upset that my $2,000 bike was damaged by this rack and I have decided to return it (the rack, not the bike). I will be looking for an alternative rack or towing bikes in the back of my truck.
