I put a thermometer on each end of my 75 gallon aquarium and found that there is typically a 0.8 or 0.9 degree (Fahrenheit) difference. Thinking maybe one of my heaters (one at each end) was mounted higher, I moved both probes together in the middle and found they didn't change. After giving them an hour to change when the temperature there was different, with the sensors literally half an inch apart, they read 78.8 and 79.6, so they're 0.8 apart, and who knows which one is correct (if any of them).
