Review on ๐Ÿšฒ Rear Wire Folding Basket by SUNLITE by Robert Sisco

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Almost too well done. Exaggerated design and unthought-out details.

I have been using Wald folding baskets for almost 40 years and throw them away every ten years when they become so deformed that they are unusable. I thought I'd try these out. Firstly they appear to be very well made, appearing to be more durable than the Wald ones. Actually, that's a small problem. They've been redesigned a bit. The mesh bottom panel looks great, but it's impossible to grab hold of to pull up and fold because I can't get my finger on the wire like I did with the forest. I had to put a small plastic loop inside. The grille looks impressive, but it really is the solution to the problem. The latch that secures the basket when folded is very large which again looks impressive until it's time to use it as it is almost the same width as the section of wire it is intended to attach to meaning that you have to fiddle with it to align it. high. Likewise, the wire frame is narrower on the outside than Wald's, which certainly makes it stronger, but it's difficult to fold down the bottom of the basket from the collapsed position because the hook gets caught on the wrong part of the wire frame. More fiddling is required before going all the way down. To solve this problem I had to use wire cutters to cut a piece off the outside of the basket so the hook would snap in without snagging. Cumbersome metal parts that come with forest baskets and won't work with wide racks like the Tubus, VO, or Soma. One problem with this is that the hose clamps hold the top of the basket tight against the frame, preventing the latch that holds the collapsed frame from rotating freely. This was solved by using cable ties as spacers. A beautifully crafted item that looks cool but the details need to be worked out.
