This is a good headlamp for the money. It comes with a nice case that I use for batteries etc. It draws 50 to 70 mA at low power. At high power approx. 160 mA. The third option lets two unfocused LEDs shine on the sides. They offer wider and more even illumination, but do not come with savings in power consumption. They draw about 160mA as the high focus option. I use the low focus option for most applications, but switch to the high focus option when I need strong light. I use 1.25 Ni-MH batteries. The light works well with them, but will also work with 1.5V alkaline and heavy-duty batteries. I didn't pay much attention to the battery life. 50mA is what I would expect from a low setting, although in cases where less light is optimal I would prefer an even lower setting than the wider 2-LED option. It's perfect for me in terms of comfort. No need for a top strap. Not hard. Changing the batteries with your fingers is not easy, but does not cause any particular problems. That's a big deal for a headlight.
