We've been the Roomba family for many years; from destroying old furniture to smashing baseboards to the i8's rather brilliant design that indicates, remembers and cleans itself. So I was a bit skeptical about how this robot from Samsung would fare. Mapping: Our Roomba took forever, despite once bouncing back and forth from the dump tower with no issues. However, the item that was out of place would drop it and get stuck when it did. In comparison, Samsung launched like a champ on the first try and built the card in minutes. This thing moves fast and hits absolutely nothing. It moves smoothly, traversing two rooms without issue before chugging back to the dump station. Noise: Both evacuation towers sound like jet engines taking off. As for the machines themselves, I think the Roomba is a little quieter but doesn't really stand out. Cleaning: here is a big one. Navigation aside, if it can't get clear well then it really fails. At first I didn't think Samsung did such a thorough job. I have three Goldens and a new house with lots of hardwood. That means floating clumps of fur on baseboards, chair legs, etc. I thought Samsung was missing some of these, but at the end of the cleaning program it managed to get them out. The map it creates shows you the cleanup path and that's an organized thing! He moves back and forth in a very systematic pattern, unlike Roomba who sometimes dances like a drunk at a dance party. Going from hardwood to thick carpet was no problem, but couldn't go 1/2 inch from hardwood to tile. A sloping transition strip would probably make things easier. It cleaned our thick wool carpets with no problem, and the total time spent on the cleaning program was half that of the Roomba i8. App: The Roomba app sometimes caused sync issues with robots. I have three Roomba products, so maybe it's an overload, but it's still annoying. So far there have been no issues with the Samsung app and I really like the ease of use. It automatically divides the map into rooms, allows you to block rooms or select a room to delete. He'll also show you a detailed map of the areas he couldn't reach, so you can move obstacles or rearrange furniture. And he does absolutely nothing! It comes with a spare bag, filter and spare side brush. Based on our experience with Roomba's self-draining tower, two bags should last approximately 6 months before needing replacement. I've seen some reviewers say the bags aren't available. I usually just dump the bag when it's full and reuse it in the cooling tower. I have no doubt that replacement bags and imitations will be available soon as this is an amazing little machine that does what Roomba is still doing wrong.
