So this centering adapter idea makes sense and works when implemented correctly. The problem with some telescopes, as I learned from one of mine, is the angled notch on the bottom of the adapter. I understand it helps keep it secure, but it depends on how close your set screws are to the top of the focus tube. I have a focuser with three screws that hold it in place fairly well and the other caused the centering adapter to warp when I tightened the set screw. It contradicts the "centering principle" if you don't center the adapter! I think, that at the end the corner cut has to be eliminated or the lower edge of the cut has to be lengthened by approx. 2-3 mm. If you have 3 set screws it should be fine. If you have one you may need to run the gasket from the opposite side and hope your screw is high enough on the edge of the pipe to catch that angled cut. Otherwise you may have to do what I did: hold the adapter flat on the focuser and slowly and methodically tighten the set screw.
