Review on πŸ‘– Enhanced 4" Flange Assembly Replacement Elements for Reef Diaper Disposable Filter Socks by Melissa Garcia

Material/design shorter than standard causes duplicates

I liked the idea of a disposable filter sock so I wanted to try this but was very disappointed and will stick with the standard 100 micron Stay fleece sock. First, they have a serious design flaw that I've experienced firsthand. They're 4 inches shorter than your standard filter sock, a big problem if you're using any type of flex or drain extension in the pan. The end of my pipe was too close to the bottom of the reef diaper sock and just an hour later it was clogged with debris, causing backflow into the drain pipe, causing my aquarium to overflow at the rim. Luckily I was only out an hour and caught up quickly but still lost a few gallons to bottom and salinity fluctuations due to ATO compensation. I could take my plumbing apart and cut the drain pipes 4 inches shorter, but I didn't have to make it 14 inches, which is a more common sock size than their current 10-inch length. Another disadvantage is the material from which it is made, it is a single layer of polypropylene, which does not allow "absorption" of detritus, it simply licks the surface of the material, which also contributes to a short clogging time. Traditional fleece socks have room in the material to allow water to move and not cause as much clogging. My suggestion for giving this product 5 stars and making me a regular customer is to make them the standard. 14" and may switch to thin/thin disposable fleece instead of single ply polypropylene.
