Review on Noctua NF-A8 PWM - Premium Quiet Fan, 80mm, 4-Pin (Brown) by Damon Blazis

I doubt you can find a quieter fan

This fan is quiet and the performance is reasonable. Personally, I don't care about colors. But from the packaging to the sheathing of the wires, you can tell this is a quality product. There are two things to note. First of all, if your motherboard has a 4-pin PWM header, you cannot run this fan at a fixed speed without modifying the power cord. If you need fixed speed fan, please buy 3pin version. It has slightly different noise and airflow characteristics, but they're close. I am assuming that if your motherboard has a 3 pin header then this fan will run at a fixed speed. Second, a quiet fan reduces performance, especially an 80mm or smaller fan. It's just physics. Higher RPM means more noise. Make sure this fan has enough airflow to meet your needs. For example, if you want to replace a fan on a CPU cooler with this fan, it will not move enough air to cool a 95W CPU at full load. Look for a Noctua CPU cooler with a 120mm fan that moves more air at lower RPMs.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
