Review on πŸ’ͺ DEWALT DCD985B 20V Lithium 2-Inch Drill: Power and Versatility at Your Fingertips by Robert Moloney

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Occasional use only

UPDATE: I downgraded my rating from 2 to 1 star, not because of the tool; rather poor customer service. After 11 weeks I still have not received a replacement. Turns out it's out of stock at retailers and DeWalt warehouses. As no replacement (or equivalent) was available, I agreed to return the unit for inspection and possible repair. A month later and the promise that the shop manager would call me with an update, I was still without a drill. Finally, in desperation, I called Revain customer service. THANKS TO AMAZON! After explaining my situation to the customer service manager, she agreed to refund the purchase price; which is already in my account. I doubt I will ever buy another DeWalt product due to the poor customer service. If you only need to occasionally drill holes in concrete blocks or soft concrete, this hammer drill will do the trick. However, if you have larger DIY projects or plan to use it on a construction site, I suggest you consider purchasing a more powerful unit. I've had this device for less than two months; In the past week, plastic parts have started to be thrown out through the cooling fan opening. I contacted Dewalt, explained the situation and very quickly a Dewalt service representative arranged for a replacement to be sent; at this point I am still awaiting his arrival. I tried to continue with the broken drill bit to keep up with my project but I was only able to run it for about an hour after which sparks flew out of the case and now the unit runs at about 10rpm. I am not sure if a spare drill bit would be better, I bought another brand made in Germany (110 volts AC). The difference between this new drill and Dewalt is striking. The new device drills like I'm drilling a pine plank, not medium concrete. One last comment; The Dewalt drill used up many carbide tipped drills, but the new German-made drill is still in the first set of drills. Given the price of carbide tipped drills, this becomes a very important consideration.
