During testing for this review, I had the switch in the "on" position This is an extra turn-off step you can forget about. It doesn't take long for a child to pick it up and press the button. For safety, the instructions say it takes about seven pounds of pressure to close the button This isn't much really, if the igniter is installed controls down the button will not be in contact with the surface so that helps.
