Filter very good but I expect it because it's a filter. But he also pretends to be silent, which is NOT the case! After a few weeks it started to fail. I took it apart and made sure everything was good and clean. I've had this noise in the past with filters and lubricating the impeller usually helps. This didn't work, although I did notice a difference, so I know the impeller is involved in the noise. It's probably also the engine that I can't fix. The sound of running water is also annoying. And NO, my water level is not too low. I'm keeping the water up and just tried adding another gallon to my 55 gallon tank to see if it helps at all. I had to remove that gallon that I added because my bubbler made the water spill a bit overboard, so my water level was already very high. I bought this filter because it needed to be quiet. Since my aquarium is in my bedroom, a quiet filter is very important to me. I can handle just the simple sound of a filter running like I can handle the simple sound of an engine, but that new whirring sound is ridiculously annoying and I can't turn the water off. I've had no issues with the sound of running water with any of the last 4 filters I've had. I just wanted to be able to sleep better at night - peace of mind for me and health and safety for my babies in the aquarium, but unfortunately I pee half the night because of the stupid running water and I'm running out of aspirin for a headache caused by that buzzing. Only a few more days until another filter arrives (Tetra is trying this time) and hopefully this one won't be crap in 3 weeks. If the next one doesn't work, I'll do it myself! If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. It is obvious that too much is being asked of the company to actually be able to meet the requirements. 2 stars only because the filter actually works, but like I said, that's the least I would expect from a filter. I gave two stars earlier because at least it worked. Not now. It's absolutely clean, there doesn't seem to be any problems with the impeller, it just shut down.
