Honest 4 star rating. Oscar winners!

Honest review! This filter works great. Not 5 stars but I like it! This filter goes well with my Oscar cymbal. It's able to filter out a ton of that massive amount that my year-old Oscar throws in the trash. An annoying hum comes from the top cover. Just touch it and it will go away for a few days or more. Not exactly a massive problem. It's not quiet either. You can say it works. I updated this model for additional filtration and immediately noticed a change in the cleanliness of my water. The

Pros
  • Uses two large Aqueon replacement cartridges and a custom sized 20/75 filter pad
Cons
  • Some small things

May not last very long due to overheating

I've bought several of these pumps and I think the price was pretty good. Some lasted over a year but got very loud. Others died out within a month or two. I found that they were prone to overheating as they couldn't always restart after a power outage. I clean it very carefully, but if the power goes out and I'm not home for several hours, this pump heats up and then the impeller gets stuck in the flared casing. Although this happened a couple of times I kept replacing them with new Aqueonsโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Self-Priming Filter Pump Automatically restarts or restarts when power is interrupted and restored
Cons
  • Appearance

I had one like this for 1 year before it failed me. I have a 55g aquarium with >30 cichlids and have used this HOB plus canister filter to keep the aquarium clean. It worked decently for about 9 months and then suddenly the filter got really loud (I have to say that this filter isn't very quiet to start with, so any amount of "louder" was very undesirable). I've tried finding ways to silence it again, but none of the suggestions seem to work. This includes removing the filter completely andโ€ฆ

Pros
  • High flow rates for optimal dissolved oxygen to keep fish healthier and more active
Cons
  • Vulgarity

Filters are good but noisy - can't sleep

Filter very good but I expect it because it's a filter. But he also pretends to be silent, which is NOT the case! After a few weeks it started to fail. I took it apart and made sure everything was good and clean. I've had this noise in the past with filters and lubricating the impeller usually helps. This didn't work, although I did notice a difference, so I know the impeller is involved in the noise. It's probably also the engine that I can't fix. The sound of running water is also annoyingโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Internal pump design helps muffle noise and eliminate leaks with self-priming function
Cons
  • Minor issues
