Review on Hydrofarm Active Aqua Pump Outlets by Brandon Mix

This is a good pump at a reasonable price. I use it on a gravel pack in a 25 year old 55 gallon tank. I do NOT like powerheads. Too much time is required for maintenance and further operation. I personally prefer an air pump. I went for the dual nozzle option and it offers enough airflow to get the job done well. I like the ability to regulate the amount of air used. I like that it's efficient with only 3 watts of power (that's what the specs say. I've NOT checked this). That's more than I expected. It's not ridiculously big, but it's a little bigger than the pump I replaced and bigger than any pump I've ever had. It's a little noisy. Not insanely loud, but louder than the pump I had and it was completely silent. My aquarium is wall mounted and the pump is in a back room closet. I can still hear it from outside, but that's a manageable noise level. The woman can handle it, so it's all good. If it was in a residential area it would drive me crazy. This noise is the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. Conclusion: A good, inexpensive pump that works well. Just a little noisy for my taste.
