Review on High Point SSD7103 Bootable Controller by Chris Cervantes

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Nice card, but more detailed instructions could help

I was able to install this raid controller as a boot disk in windows 10 with msi x299 sli plus motherboard. I put 4 1TB 970 Evo plus in Raid 0 with this card. The Windows test showed a read speed of 10 GB/s. The overall design of the card is simple and effective. It dissipates heat well from other components and provides good airflow for cooling SSDs. Why am I giving 4 stars instead of 5 because the instructions weren't detailed enough. The manual has instructions for two specific motherboards, neither of which I have owned. It took me a few hours to figure out exactly what they wanted from me in terms of uefi configuration and I was able to successfully install the raid controller and windows. Also note that if you try to raid more than 2TB, you will need to switch your volume to gpt. This wasn't covered in the manual but I was able to figure it out from some YouTube videos.

Pros
  • dedicated PCIe 3.0 x16 bus bandwidth (PCIe 3.0 x4 dedicated bandwidth for each NVMe M.2 SSD)
Cons
  • annoying
