Too bad for a supposedly upscale manufacturer. I bought Consumer Reports to get their top rated toaster and that's about it. Black front and chrome sides with slots wide enough even for hand cut French bread or pastries (if desired). The front touch panel lights up like a VU meter. However, I can't believe that modern toasters take too long to do their job and don't toast the bread evenly. I've sent a few back and sadly this beauty joins them. We bought two: the first one I toasted 2/3 each side of the toast, leaving the bottom edge unburned. Looking inside, we both noticed the bottom "quartz rod" heating element (it doesn't use old wires that get red hot). #2 toasts slightly better, but still leaves a wide strip of toasted bread along the bottom edge on both sides. Going back number 2. What turns me on is Consumer Reports Laboratories boasting about the CPT-3000's ability to "fry well and evenly on both sides". It looks cool but it's not, it goes backwards. Again, this takes quite a long time to do a poor job. It's not a speed demon.
