Mine didn't break. And they seem pretty solid when closed. The only flaw I find is that to remove a disc you press the center button like all disc holders do. But when you press the button on the free-swinging holders, it rests against the DVD on the other side. The button cannot be pressed when the cantilever chair is lying horizontally. You have to lift the swing holder so that it buys itself and then press the button. It, on the other hand, presses the button on the DVD and rubs the data side of that disc. So far, not a single disc has been scratched. But I'm very careful with them because I know they rub. In fact, it may be better to place the disks data side out.
