Review on Mystique Flameless Candle, Ivory 6-Inch Taper, Real Wax Candle With Realistic Flickering Wick, Battery-Powered, By Boston Warehouse by Andrew Hare

High quality moving flame battery operated candle - very realistic

I was skeptical at first about the price - after all you can buy a battery operated 'tea light' candle for less than a dollar. When I took the candle out of its very secure packaging I was very happy with it! Nice and bright, with a convincing movement into the "flame". The size of this style is suitable for ordinary conical candlesticks, which is very convenient. Plus a durable and high-quality construction - two AA batteries inside don't rattle at all. Mechanism Note: Most battery powered candles use a simple flickering circuit on a fixed LED to simulate a candle flame; This system is inexpensive and works very well. This type of candle is much more compelling as it uses a bright, amber LED that shines from the candle's solid white body onto a flame-shaped, translucent piece of white plastic. This part of the "flame" moves (electro-mechanically) partially in and out of the LED beam, creating a very realistic, truly moving (not just flickering) light. From a distance of 1.20 to 1.50 m it is difficult to tell that these are not real candles. If they have one downside, then the "flame" and the mechanism are fragile. They are definitely not intended for outdoor use and, like real ones, do not get caught in the flames either! Also, they tend to emit light mostly upwards, in the direction the LED is pointing, so they don't glow nearly as well (i.e. brightly illuminate everything around them) as a real candle.

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • Doubtful
