Imagination and interest are required!

I bought this for my 14 year old son and he loves it! He used it to light LEDs and detonate his Estes missiles. He's enjoyed just "tinkering" with it and says it's a lot of fun. This set is somewhat complex and may not be suitable for all children. Mine was always well versed in such things, but some of his brothers and sisters would never understand. I think a lot depends on interests. If you or your child think this might be fun, I highly recommend it.
