What an atrocity these drives are. I have three different CD drives:* Plextor PX-755SA (firmware 1.07)* Plextor PX-716A (firmware 1.11)* Toshiba SD-R1612 (firmware version unknown) All discs were burned on PX-755CA. A write failed (maybe just a bad disc; that happens), so I'm ruling that out from my perspective. All writes were done at 16x (sometimes I use faster, but I prefer less rereading when using disc). Of the 10 successful burns, 7 were readable by the PX-755SA, 3 were not readable by all drives (including the PX-755SA). Of the 7 readable discs, only ONE was readable by any drive other than the PX-755SA. Before you say "looks like a problem with Plextor," consider this: however, I have to believe that these drives have serious compatibility issues that have nothing to do with the manufacturer. Maybe I just got a "bad batch," but the marriage percentage is totally unacceptable; it's a waste of money and a waste of time. As someone in IT, I need to be able to burn a disc at an acceptable speed (16x) and ship that disc to shared storage to install an OS on a server. I don't like burning a disc and then driving for 20 minutes only to find that the medium itself has let me down. Avoid those special Memorex discs.
