In March I bought a small boat with a faulty bilge pump. I replaced it with an Attwood Sahara 4505. After a short while the pump grabbed the impeller, which stopped the pump and burned the motor (or it just stopped working). I'm on my fourth Sahara 4505 now. The only reason I keep replacing it with the same pump is because I have a latch on the mounting block (base) in the bottom of my boat and don't want to change it. In three cases, leaf stalks or other small foreign objects get stuck in the impeller. If the pump and/or impeller are so sensitive to these fine particles, why not reduce the distance between the filter inlets or redesign the filter and/or impeller. I've attached two photos showing the off center impeller and the bulge on the pump housing. This pump is too sensitive. This will be my last Sahara 4505 as I will switch to another brand if the latter fails.
