Automatic bilge float stopped after less than a year

Less than a year later the automatic bilge float is not working - I have noticed that the bilge water is not pumped out until I turn on the switch on March 5th when I but the boat is in the water and rainwater is not pumped out. I changed it and it still doesn't work. When I turn it on manually it pumps, but when I turn the float knob up the hold doesn't rise - check all the wires and they're ok. Didn't realize it was less than a year and just looked at the collision warranty and it says 3…

Disappointed with the quality and service of the Atwood pump

I have now purchased two S500 pumps from Amazon and would not recommend either this product or Atwood. Both of my pumps had their motor dying within 2-3 months of brief use. Compare that to rules of similar specification, they've lasted several years with the same light usage. One of the reasons I bought (and paid more) Atwood over cheaper overseas models was their warranty. Although they appear to have a strong guarantee, good luck if Atwood responds to the claim. I followed the instructions…

Terrible Quality: Bilge Pumps

In March I bought a small boat with a faulty bilge pump. I replaced it with an Attwood Sahara 4505. After a short while the pump grabbed the impeller, which stopped the pump and burned the motor (or it just stopped working). I'm on my fourth Sahara 4505 now. The only reason I keep replacing it with the same pump is because I have a latch on the mounting block (base) in the bottom of my boat and don't want to change it. In three cases, leaf stalks or other small foreign objects get stuck in the…

Electronic Sensor Bilge Pumps

The automatic pump circuit failed for 6 weeks leaving only the auxiliary pump running on my moored boat. Contrary to what some write, this pump does not have an internal float. In "Automatic" mode, the pump turns on about every three minutes and checks the power consumption of the pump motor. A pump impeller rotating in water draws more current than an impeller in air. Then it runs for the specified time. If the bilge is pumped empty, the pump continues to run for a certain time. This wastes…
