Review on StarTech Com Rack Enclosure Server Cabinet by Ellington Gardner

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Not for full-size servers.

Not sure why other reviews mention sidewalls and assembly. The cabinet arrived on half a pallet, fully assembled with front and rear locks only. Removing the side panels is not an option (as I see it). This is a nice piece of furniture if you like light wood. It's annoying that the front and back keys are different, like my keychain isn't big enough. I'm writing this so others don't make the same mistake I did. Note that the inner rails have a maximum length of 21.54 inches. This means that the SuperMicro servers I was trying to install here cannot be rail mounted. While the cabinet is about 6 inches flat to allow full airflow for a full-size server, they fit, but there's no space between the front and back. It is not soundproof. I spent extra money on the acoustic coating because the 1u server is noisy and I have 3 in a cluster. I didn't want to hear blow dryers and pay rent for a collocation for a lab project. However, it does a good job of rejecting noise, with resulting decibel levels roughly equivalent to those of a network switch. It should work well in a typical office environment. Bottom line, I'd buy it again, with the caveat of planning for half-deep servers like the Dell R220.
