Firstly, this is a very light bike carrier for 1 bike from Thule. Weighs only 23 pounds. It's made from lightweight aluminum and contains a lot of plastic parts, although I'm not keen on all the plastic parts, it keeps the weight of the stand to a minimum, which is a good thing. The trunk is very easy to put on and take off and is transported from the garage to the car and back. Also, because of its light weight, I can easily lift the shelf and store it on a garage shelf. The rack is very easy to assemble - 3 screws attach the left half of the platform to the center bracket and 3 screws. Attach the right 1/2 platform to the middle bracket. Then insert 2 locks (1 in the cable lock and 1 in the cocking handle) and you're done. It really is that easy to assemble. The stand itself has many nice features. It works with both 1.25" and 2" hitches, has a large handle on the back to securely attach the post to the hitch (so you don't have to fiddle with a pin lock and keys and struggle insert them into the coupler hole and lock/unlock it) and the large handle has a key lock so you can lock it once it's tight so no one can separate your post from the coupler. The hitch also has a built in cable lock for added security and uses the same key as the large handle lock. Putting the bike on and off the rack is easy. Just place it on the rack and press down on the front and rear tire holders until they snap onto the bike's tires and that's it. To lift off, pull the release lever and move the tire holders away from the bike's wheels - done. Because it is a platform carrier, it never touches the bike frame - the only point of contact with the hitch is the bike tires. This is a great single bike platform. Did I mention it's very easy? Plus, it's easy to assemble, with a convenient large rear handle that screws the post into the hitch, a built-in cable lock, and an easy-to-use ratcheting tire mounting system. Highly recommended!
