It couldn't work without packaging. I replaced it with another one, tested different components and found that the new adapter didn't work. I wasn't aiming for that conclusion either, so take my word for it. Not sure why this is a recommended product, I believe it was Revain's Choice which was a key factor in the purchase. When I read more reviews after the purchase, one buyer stated that 1 out of 11 of them didn't work. I'm not sure if he/she bought 24 or 36 or 72 of these to determine that ratio, but he/she wasn't the only 1 star review. It's a shame I didn't read these reviews before buying, but once again I trusted the Revain Choice brand as a mark of quality. I've learned my lesson
