I decided on this model after extensive research. While I'd prefer a combination lock for ease of use, I've read that due to machining tolerances (in any combination lock design) some people can feel a change in tension in the wheels as they get closer to the correct number. Also, another reviewer of the Kensington combination lock on Amazon (not sure which model) stated that setting the combination lock incorrectly prevents the combination version of the lock from opening (I don't know if this is true, check the combo version reviews here on amazon-who-then talks about the problem and calls Kensington). the spiral cable versions were too thin for me. Using a key seems to be the safest way to use this type of lock. (I've also read security websites that say round keys aren't as secure as flat keys, so these flat keys are a good choice.) As for the lock itself. Perfect! Low profile, sleek design, VERY easy, just "click" on the small tab I installed earlier in the Kensington lock slot. Really great design how the cable is securely attached to the lock and can rotate around the lock, so it can be pointed in many different directions and doesn't put too much stress on the lock or laptop. The head of the lock "snaps" onto a small pin. you need to attach to the Kensington slot during initial setup. then this little pin stays in the hole and you just push it with the lock to lock your laptop and then put the key in the hole in the head of the lock and turn it and the lock will open to remove it . The small tab that is left in the laptop lock slot is the one you assemble ahead of time, and the actual locking head just snaps in and out. The small, fixed protrusion onto which the detachable lock head snaps is round and has two raised cylinders, if there is a lock on it and you only install it once and then you can make it as perfect and tight as you want) ). I have to disagree with other reviews who have complained about this. that makes a lot of sense to me. otherwise you would have to fiddle around every time you want to fit a lock and i could see how you couldn't always line it up or tighten it and it started to wear down the slot (metal is harder than plastic hence the wear time of the metal bar in the plastic slot of the lock). Also, it would just mean more hassle and time locking and unlocking the lock, so after a while I could see mine stuck in a drawer somewhere. Note: When installing the small tab for the first time, insert the small "T" rod into the locking groove. Then take the small Allen key that you were given, insert it into the appropriate hole at the top of the ledge and turn it clockwise. This Allen wrench rotates the small T-bar in the slot 90 degrees so it is now perpendicular to the small slot and cannot come out. He also inserts a second small piece of metal into the slot that is attached to the outside of the protrusion so that he holds the protrusion in the slot. So I would probably be happy with the 10mm cable choice. I believe that gives you about 6 feet, which seems like a good length for a table leg. It also comes with a cord wrap to keep it folded when not on the laptop. I like it. It's clearly reusable and I appreciate that - it's easy to store away. The only thing I would like to improve is that I think the combination lock will be a bit simpler than the keys, although you can register the keys and get replacements quickly if you lose one. Of course, you don't have to worry about people trying to pick the lock in hopes of getting it or feeling like a challenge. Okay, that was quite a long review - like I said, I did a lot of research before making this choice and invisibility. I was a little confused by some of these questions before actually taking the lock in my hot little hand. But after I've done this I feel good that I made a really good choice, which is why I wrote this to help other people sort out problems before they buy.
