TLDR: The article does not protect the car seat from urine. Twice my daughter had an accident while using a pill mat and both times the car seat was wet. At first I thought maybe it was folded or the sides weren't high enough. The second time I realized I would take it out and actually check to see if the water was coming through. I put it in the sink and filled it with water and sure enough the water started seeping through the seams. A closer look reveals that the seams go through the waterproof membrane, rendering it completely useless.
