Review on πŸ”΅ Lizard Skins DSP Bartape 3.2mm Cobalt Blue Unisex: Premium Bike Handlebar Tape for Adult Cyclists - Single Pack by Seth Shea

Awkward to work with

I have decided to overhaul my bike this winter as it has been so neglected so far. Part of the overhaul involved replacing the derailleurs, which meant pulling out and replacing the strap on the stem. I chose lizard skins because of the material and the high rating despite so few reviews. In hindsight, I probably should have used a different tape. First of all, the tape is thick and gives the feeling of a comfortable pillow, which unfortunately is also one of the negative points for me. At < 50% overlap, the thickness of the tape requires significant deformation to allow the adhesive backing to contact the rod. So much so that noticeable ridges appear on the tape afterwards. Also, the self-adhesive backing for one of the strips I received was completely useless, with zero adhesion anywhere on the bar. The second streak wasn't that bad and held up in most places. A protective strip for the brake/shift clamps is included, but again the adhesive doesn't hold in place. It also comes with a couple of strips of tape to finish off the packaging, which works really well. I chose not to use the end caps for the bars as I ordered a third party kit which I preferred for the color scheme. The set included in the kit seems to be of sufficient quality, only there is no personal desire to use it. In the future I might use a different tape. I would be willing to sacrifice some thickness and padding to greatly reduce the discomfort of applying this tape and the subsequent task of keeping it in place. Despite an overall 3 star rating for the product, this is probably one of my least favorite Revain purchases.
