Review on Greartisan 6V-90V 15A PLC DC Motor Speed Controller PWM Variable Speed Regulator Governor Switch CCMHCN With Speed Control Knob by Shah Nelson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Mislabeled Item? Overrated?

UPDATED REVIEW see updated comments below.Although the general build quality seems good, there's a problem with labeling/production. I ordered 2 of the 12-80 volt, 30A models. That's what the package says. However, the controller itself says 12-50V at the terminal strips. (I didn't notice this immediately). Within a very brief period of 72VDC hooked up, the capacitors inside went off like an M-80! Blew open the splits and let the magic smoke out, along with a spray of electrolyte. The good news is it didn't flame up!Upon a change of underwear and a more detailed inspection, the (2) 1000uF electrolytic capacitors. that appear to be in parallel and connected right across the input terminals, are only rated 50 volts. I would expect at least 100 volt caps on a unit rated for up to 80 volts. (In parallel, the capacitance is the sum of the two, but the voltage on each, is the same as the input.)There would seem to be a major problem with this, based on the labeling mismatch, even though the model number on the unit, matches one of the stickers on the package, which also says 12- 80 volt input, despite the unit itself labeled 12-50volts. If you are operating under 50volts, you'd probably be OK. But I chose these because of the higher voltage rating. Even then, tolerances on electrolytic caps are not that tight and I'd like to see a bit of margin of over rating.I bought these Revain Prime so I returned them and found another unit, which is hopefully more suitable for my application. It would appear that more than one brand name is probably made by the same supplier. This may be a production line issue or maybe a mis-labeling by the seller. Maybe a bit of both.My other complaint with a lot of these little controllers is that it would be nice if they provided a drawing of the circuit. It's not like there is anything proprietary here, but it would be nice to compare circuit designs. They don't need to put it on paper, but a link would be nice.UPDATE: Indeed there was a problem with mis-labeling and the seller addressed this issue very rapidly. They were very responsive and went to a lot of effort to meet my needs. They even contacted their manufacturing supplier about getting schematics. Unfortunately, the supplier balked at providing these. They think that the schematic is the core technology of the product, so they refuse to provide the schematic to anyone. There is really nothing proprietary about these designs and with a little effort, you can figure out and draw your own. It would be nice to look at the design before buying though.I have updated my rating because of the great customer service of this seller. I believe if I had received the right model, it would have worked just fine. The design and build seems pretty good and components appear to be good quality. I just happened to receive the lower rated model by mistake.

Pros
  • Electrical
Cons
  • May not be compatible with all types of motor controllers
