Just right for me in my review

I mounted this on a bevel edged wood board above my bed almond with two gooseneck LED lights.
Normally The LCD display is on which saves battery power and the LED display only comes on during low room light. Also, the brightness can be dimmed enough to make it visible in the middle of the night but not so bright as to keep you awake.

Some of the functions are a little hard to figure out. The manual is OK but not great. I think the LCD to LED functionality is great. I have the LED set to low and it is plenty bright at night. I bought this because of the temperature reading too--seems to work great. Here''s to long battery life!
