There was some grease on the colored plastic cover next to the handle, but this can be easily removed with a little rubbing alcohol. Because the plates and handle heat up quickly, you'll need to adjust the handle to more or less pressure before they get hot. I only use it around 190 degrees Fahrenheit, although it can go up to 485 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperature and time settings of 210 degrees Fahrenheit and 120 seconds seem ideal.
