This gate is great for keeping puppies. We bought other gates but the railing was too wide for the puppies to get through. These gates are also prettier (for metal gates) and easier to open and close. The advantages are also that the doors: 1) open in both directions; 2) stay open when you push them to the fully open position; and 3) automatic closing unless you push them to the open position. We have three gates at the entrance to our kitchen which allow us to effectively keep the puppies out of this space when necessary. We also have one in the hallway blocking the exit from the common room where the puppies usually stay with us. They work for our puppies and will likely work into adulthood as they are very small breed dogs (adults 10-14 pounds). The gate probably won't be high enough to accommodate an older, larger breed.
